Job Summary/Purpose:

Maintain and develop existing advertisers to reach their maximum potential by fulfilling their needs with our products. Grow account base by prospecting and developing new advertisers in a set geographic territory who can utilize our products to increase their business. Meet expected budgeted goals and increase market share.

Primary Responsibilities:

  1. Achieve monthly revenue goals set for sales territory/account list based on previous years history and potential of the territory.
  2. Develop new business by identifying sales opportunities in the territory.
  3. Maintain and grow net active account base by making an average of 60 sales and prospecting calls per week.
  4. Improve existing client relationships and develop strong relationships with new customers that are mutually beneficial in the long term.
  5. Create marketing presentations using our products to include target audiences, demographics, readership, trends and research that will illustrate the features and benefits most important to our customers and prospects.
  6. Maintain a high level of customer service and positive public relations by providing effective marketing solutions, responding to customer requests and concerns in a timely manner.
  7. Participate in team-based selling.
  8. Handle process issues from start to finish, including ad order entry, picking up ad copy from clients, ad layouts, ad payment.
  9. Quote prices and credit terms. Prepare sales contracts. Estimate date of delivery of services to customer based on knowledge of production schedules and capabilities.
  10. Attend sales and systems training, sales meetings.
  11. Monitor competition and business trends in sales territory. Report changes to sales management.
  12. Adhere to all company policies, procedures and deadlines.
  13. Other essential duties and tasks as assigned.

Experience, Qualifications, Technical Requirements, Education:

  • High school education. College.
  • Experience in sales, marketing, retail, or advertising.
  • Ability to manage change productively.
  • Professional presentation skills.

The Midland Reporter-Telegram, acquired by Hearst in 1979, is located in the heart of the vast 54-county Permian Basin of West Texas, a geological region producing 70 percent of the oil in Texas.

The newspaper's special coverage includes the Permian Basin Oil Report, a weekly section devoted to news of the gas and oil industry and the mywesttexas.com website that serves the entire Permian Basin with local news and information.
