Alongside its consumer media holdings, Hearst owns and operates a dozen B2B data and software companies that provide mission-critical information and solutions for their business customers in the Financial (Fitch Group), Health (e.g., MCG and FDB), and Transportation (e.g., CAMP Systems and MOTOR Information Systems) sectors.

Hearst is seeking an Associate to join its Corporate Development team in its headquarters in New York. The Associate will play a key role in supporting acquisition and strategic investment activities for the company, with the primary focus of helping to expand the company’s Business Media (B2B) portfolio into new sectors by identifying and acquiring market-leading businesses.

The Associate role is a 2-3 year position and will report directly to the Vice President of Corporate Development. The role will provide a unique vantage point into Hearst’s businesses and strategy.


·         Identify, source, and evaluate potential acquisition targets

·         Compile extensive market research, including conducting and synthesizing expert and customer interviews

·         Develop and validate investment theses for acquisition targets, including strategic, financial, and risk analyses

·         Build executive presentations summarizing sector and company overviews

·         Track opportunity pipeline in internal CRM database

·         Manage and maintain relevant industry information (e.g., M&A news, information about private equity portfolios)

·         Identify and attend relevant conferences

·         Engage with and present findings at meetings with internal stakeholders

Required Skills

·         Intellectual curiosity and excellent critical and analytical thinking

·         Ability to quickly get up to speed on topics/ sectors without prior knowledge

·         Self-starter, including with ambiguous and open-ended assignments

·         Prioritization, time management, and project management

·         Fluency in PowerPoint and Excel

·         Communication skills and executive presence

Desired Experience

·         1-3 years of MBB strategy consulting, bulge bracket investment banking, private equity, or corporate development experience

·         Top performer in previous role(s)

·         Experience with software industry (preferable)
