Hearst Entertainment & Syndication is the division of Hearst that includes our cable network partnerships with Disney (ESPN, A&E, History, Lifetime), our digital video entertainment investments (Complex Networks and iflix), our investment in music streaming businesses (Kobalt Music), our cable and digital video production companies (North South Productions), and comics syndication and character licensing operations (King Features).


The Role

  • The Senior Analyst, Finance & Strategy will support the Director of Finance and Director of Strategic Development with financial and strategic analysis to support our current investments (ESPN, A&E Networks, Complex, Kobalt Music, iflix, King Features, and NorthSouth Productions) as well as help evaluate new investments


  • Financial responsibilities would include:

    • Prepare monthly journal entries to input financial data into the general ledger for our cable network properties

    • Maintain full-year financial forecast in the planning and budgeting system for our cable network properties

    • Maintain E&S Group’s reporting files to ensure data is correctly pulled from the database

    • Prepare and distribute the E&S Group’s monthly financial reporting package to group and senior management

    • Prepare quarterly benchmarking reports for cable networks with information reported by the publicly traded cable companies

    • Perform other ad-hoc analysis and reporting on an as-needed basis

  • Strategic responsibilities would include:

    • Analysis on industry landscapes and individual companies

      • Research on digital media industry verticals and specific companies, focused on macro outlook, players, business models, and financials as well as assembly of strategic review decks for senior management within Entertainment & Syndication as well as Hearst Corporate

      • Monitor cable network ratings data from Nielsen reporting

      • Prepare bi-weekly ratings reports for management on programming and ratings trends for the cable industry

    • Analysis to help identify new investment and acquisition targets

      • Research to help identify promising new investment and acquisition targets for Hearst Entertainment & Syndication and assistance in preparing valuation analyses, performing due diligence, and assembling key presentation materials

    • Analysis to support our existing companies

      • Analysis to support new revenue and business development initiatives for our existing companies

      • Ongoing monthly check-ins with finance teams at our various digital companies to review financial and operational performance vs. plan 


  • At least 2-4 years of experience in financial planning & analysis, financial modelling, and preparing presentation materials for senior executives

  • Prior work experience in investment banking, corporate development, or management consulting a plus

  • Prior work experience or interest in content and traditional / digital media industry

  • Bachelors degree from a leading university, preferably in a quantitative major such as economics, finance, accounting, mathematics, or statistics


  • Strong Microsoft Excel financial modelling abilities

  • High degree of comfort with Microsoft PowerPoint and Word
