Part-Time Plateroom Operator

This position’s primary responsibility is to proof page files prior to plate production for a KBA Commander 4-color web offset newspaper press. The operator will use Newsway and other pre-press software to run AGFA CTP (computer-to-plate) imagers, processors and Nela vision benders to produce press-ready aluminum printing plates. In addition, this position performs general maintenance and cleaning of equipment, restocking of materials, and light pagination. Effective communications with coworkers in other departments and outside commercial print customers is critical to the success of the person filling this position.


Major Responsibilities/Skill Sets

      Operation of all CTP Equipment
      Knowledge of Adobe and Microsoft applications
Troubleshooting skills

      People skills

      Organizational and file management skills

      Ability to keep calm under pressure and remain level-headed

      Recognize and report system/equipment problems

           Maintain a high degree of professionalism
      Effectively communicate with colleagues and customers
Monitor page flow and replates
      Maintain accurate logs, records and nightly reports

           Ability to comprehend and follow detailed instructions

           Adhere to preventative maintenance schedule    

           Keep plateroom clean and organized

           Check/maintain imagers, processor(s) chemistry and document

           Verify plate counts in imagers and load or rotate plate stock as needed


Position Requirements

  High School Diploma

     Background with computers

     Graphic applications a plus, but not necessary

     Must be able to lift 35-pound packages of printing plates and operate pallet jack


Pay starts at $15.00/hour and can progress upward with training and experience. You must list your job history in your application, or attach a resume, in order to be considered.
