Mailroom Assistant, Periodic/Backup
 

The San Francisco Chronicle, the Bay Area’s authoritative news source, is seeking a periodic Mailroom Assistant backup to support its mailroom and newsroom operations. This position is integral to the company providing general administrative support and aiding in keeping our departments running efficiently and effectively. As a periodic backup, your hours and schedule will vary from week-to-week and can range from 8 to 40 hours per week, based on business needs; advance notice of schedule will be provided. Work hours can be scheduled Monday-Friday, from 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m.

 
Responsibilities
 
  • Sort incoming mail for all SF Chronicle departments
  • Apply postage to outgoing mail and log department to charge
  • Restock postage and packaging materials
  • Let delivery drivers in and make sure packages are picked up
  • Take wine shipments to the wine cellar, books to the bookroom and DataSafe boxes to the accounting cage
  • Sort and distribute newsroom mail
  • Help maintain printers and proofers, removing jams as needed
  • Assist with special projects as needed
 
Requirements
 
  • You have a flexible schedule and can work from 8 to 40 per week
  • Are self-motivated and can work independently to accomplish tasks
  • Like to troubleshoot problems to determine the best course of action
  • Can cheerfully and efficiently handle assigned tasks
  • Ability to lift up to 50 lbs.
  • Comfortable with technology/willing to learn new systems and machines
  • Have a strong work ethic which includes reliability and accountability
  • Bonus points: you have previous mailroom experience
