Responsibilities:

 

Primary:

 

• Collaborate and communicate effectively with creative team during ideation

   sessions. 

 

  Understand each client’s organizational goals and objectives.

 

  Assess and recommend appropriate technologies/platforms to effectively meet

    each project’s requirements and goals.

 

  Assume overall accountability for successful implementation on all client projects.

 

  Provide technical leadership; Help set the technical direction for our agency.

 

• Ensure that we are proactive in our pursuit of new solutions and innovation within

    our agency.

 

  Oversee employee, freelance web developers and partner web developers, ensure  

    technical solutions are properly architected and specified, and review all code for 

    quality assurance purposes.

 

  Comfortable using teleconferencing and web-based technology to communicate

    with our clients, as well as our agency.

 

  Accurately estimate hours / costs / resources required to meet project goals.

 

  Able to travel when necessary.

 

Technical:

 

  Turns design and user interface mockups into functional websites powered by 

    CMS.

 

  Ensures all technology solutions are properly architected and specified.

 

  Ensures HTML/CSS is cross-browser and standards compliant and meets

    accessibility/disability requirements (when required).

 

Qualifications:

 

  BS in computer science or equivalent work experience.

 

  A minimum of five years of experience in web design or development services.

 

  Hard working, honest, enthusiastic, and flexible; takes accountability seriously

    and possesses high integrity and professionalism.

 

  Proven ability to consistently deliver technology projects on time, and on budget

    with high quality results and satisfied clients.

 

  Ability to juggle multiple projects and clients simultaneously.

 

  Enthusiastic and energetic about the future of the web.

 

Skills:

 

  Knowledgeable and experienced in PHP/MySQL, .net, ASP/SQL Server

    development.

 

  Able to effectively perform System Administrator – type functions (server

    migrations, etc.) for Apache and IIS.

 

  Can build websites with responsive architecture, as well as create quasi-native

    mobile apps through interfaces such as PhoneGap.

 

  Solid understanding of (and capable of) building e-commerce / m-commerce 

    ready applications and sites.

 

  Experience with HTML 5 animation

 

  Well-versed on SEO concepts and trends.

 

  Familiar with each layer in the LAMP stack from application architecture and 

    system infrastructure points of view.

 

• Comfortable integrating websites with other web applications and systems, both

   commercial and open source.

 

• Proficient in HTML/CSS (Sass strongly preferred), and client-side scripting
   libraries. Understands what it takes to develop pixel-perfect HTML that is cross-
   browser and standards compliant and meets accessibility/disability requirements,
   when necessary.

 

  Understands web trends, including social media integration and the impact of the

    growth of mobile/tablet browsing.

 

 

 

  Very knowledgeable in the area of web content management systems; experience

    with multiple systems – Craft CMS, WordPress and e-commerce platforms such as
   Magento.

 

• Solid understanding of source control using GIT and build tools such as Gulp.

 

• Versatile; comfortable performing a variety of roles and tasks within the company

   (examples include: development, technical leadership, training, requirements 

   analysis).

 

  Strong written and oral communication skills to a variety of audiences at different

    levels and with different backgrounds.

 

  Demonstrates accountability; owns outcomes and results, prioritizes tasks, and

    consistently meets deadlines.

 

  Thrives on learning and learns quickly.

Our History

The Houston Chronicle, one of the largest newspapers in the United States, was founded in 1901 by a young journalist, Marcellus Foster. Mr. Foster published his first edition on October 14 of that same year. In exchange for part interest, Houston businessman, Jesse Jones built a 10 story Chronicle building in downtown Houston. The Houston Chronicle was acquired by Hearst in 1987.

In addition to delivering in-depth coverage of local issues, the Houston Chronicle is committed to covering state, national and international news. The newspaper operates a news bureau in Washington, D.C., that provides coverage of issues of special interest to residents of Houston and Texas.
