Times Union

The Times Union, an iconic property of Hearst, is tasked with telling the story of the Capital Region. We believe in helping our employees tell their own stories through professional development and opportunity, and in return ensure they have a deep understanding of how their contributions help tell the story of one of the most celebrated media brands in New York.

Capital Region Weekly Newspaper Group

Known as The Advertiser, The Pennysaver, or The Moneysaver in their respective communities, this group of eleven small papers blankets the region in weekly deals and community news. Our employees work in small local offices and make a big impact on the towns they serve.

Agents of Change

"We must be alarmingly enterprising, and we must be startlingly original, and do new and striking things which constitute a revolution."

William Randolph Hearst

We're not just a newspaper company

Sure, we produce an award-winning daily newspaper but we also run the most well-read website in the Capital Region. We publish specialty magazines such as Upstate and Women@Work, the latter of which has built a network of business women who meet for informative breakfasts and networking events throughout the year. And we've recently opened the Hearst Media Center, a state-of-the-art event venue where we'll continue to expand on our mission to be the center of the community conversation.

Our History

Hearst’s properties in New York’s Capital Region were established in 1924 when William Randolph Hearst purchased the Times Union newspaper.

Today, the Times Union is a multi-media powerhouse. The newspaper is widely respected for its focus on local news and watchdog reporting, particularly on state government and politics. It has won numerous state and national awards for its work in print and online, and has repeatedly been named New York's "Newspaper of Distinction" by the state editors association.

Timesunion.com is Upstate New York's most innovative news website. Our assets include the state’s largest digital advertising agency and we are the host of major regional events, including the annual Home Expo at the Capital Center in Albany.

Where We Live

New York's Capital Region is about three hours north of New York City, three hours south of Montreal and three and a half hours from Boston. Located at the confluence of the Mohawk and Hudson rivers and sandwiched between the Catskill and Adirondack Mountains, the area is a mecca for outdoor enthusiasts. The area is also home to Saratoga Race Course, one of the best places in the country to watch horse racing.

The arts are abundant here as well. The region is home to the Saratoga Performing Arts Center, a premier outdoor amphitheater which hosts the Philadelphia Orchestra and New York City Ballet each summer. The Times Union Center is the area largest arena hosting everything from rock concerts to auto shows. We’ve got museums, galleries and musical groups galore. Like old things? Antique shops and classic car shows abound.

While winters here can be snowy, the summers make up for them. They lean toward sunny and not too hot and ice cream stands pop open to serve you from May through September.
