  • Learn run layouts and set up reel stands accordingly. Load paper into all units needed for run.
  • Put rolls in reel arms, prep rolls checking for flaws or defects, make up correct paster patterns on each roll. Use butt rolls when possible for start-ups.
  • Complete reel room reports and turn in to MIC end of each run. Reports include date, unit, publication, arm and roll number. Each unit sheet should have name of who made up paster(s). If web break occurs it must be documented on roll sheet with correct roll.
  • Setup- check pre-drives, brush tension gauges, break switch proper position, clean reel eyes, check all unit switches for proper positioning.
  • After splice – wet roll sides, check and adjust cocking device if needed, remove expelled core and load new roll.
  • Dispose of core waste, cores and all wrappers properly. All weights for scrap must recorded on Paper Waste Report.
  • On start ups of jobs, check with MIC for job duties, may be required to check folios or help on unit start up. Checking folios requires checking each page for correct date, publication and page #. 1-paper if collect and 2 if straight run.
  • By end of shift – empty all trash barrels, blow and sweep entire roll room, change any full bins of waste paper, wrappers or cores. Sweep roll lay down area.
