The primary role of the Operations Manager is the effective management the home delivery distribution operation of all CT publication and Commercial delivery products. This position oversees product control for all products handled by the home delivery, single copy, and free publication distribution networks. This position oversees all home delivery employees, contracted haulers and carriers. This position is responsible for recruiting, hiring, training, motivating and managing all distribution center employees. The incumbent is responsible for managing contractual agreements with independent contractors. This position has direct oversight of all day-to-day distribution operations and is responsible for providing our customers with excellent customer service.

Primary Responsibilities: 

1.       Manage the daily distribution of all CT publications and Commercial Products.

2.       Develop initiatives to meet company’s delivery standards while maintaining optimal route structures.

3.       Ensure a departmental commitment to customer service.

4.       Ensure that non-daily product verification procedures are in place and adhered to.

5.       Promote circulation growth through implementation of service and carrier retention programs.

6.       Prepare and administer department budgets.

7.       Develop, maintain, and improve departmental KPI’s

8.       Ensure goodwill between company and independent carrier force and ensure carrier compliance with contract terms, taking appropriate action when contract terms are violated.

9.       Responsibilities include recruitment, hiring, training and development for all distribution employees.

10.   Responsible for developing and implementing carrier recruitment programs.

11.   Aid and assist the VP Circulation in other departmental projects and assignments as deemed appropriate.

12.   Identify best practices and assist in implementation across the other Hearst Newspapers.

13.   Lead, train, and develop distribution employees to meet company’s customer satisfaction goals.

14.   Work with Production, Advertising, Sales, Finance, and Editorial teams as needed to deliver the best possible end product to consumers.

15.   Performs all other duties as assigned.

Experience Skills:

1. Four-year college degree preferred and four to six years management experience in a newspaper or consumer product environment; and equivalent combination of education and experience will be considered.

2. Strong leadership and communication skills are needed.

3. Excellent planning, organization and follow through abilities are needed.

4. Ability to work all hours. Primarily nights, early mornings, weekends and holidays.

5. Ability to balance a schedule that includes nights, early mornings, weekends, holidays, and business hours as needed.

Skill sets: MS Office, Excel, Word, Outlook, and other analytical tools, highly organized, demonstrated written and verbal communication skills; customer centric.
